Cover Story Beachmont Celebrates Louie Pasteur Park's 2nd Anniversary by Chris Foglia Beachmont knows how to throw a party! Hundreds of Beachmont residents flocked to a jam-packed Louie Pasteur Park on Saturday, September 28, to celebrate the park's first birthday. The idea for a neighborhood block-party commemorating one of Beachmont's finest achievements, the community-driven construction of a beautiful family park, was birthed in a meeting of the Beachmont Neighborhood Association. What began as a simple suggestion blossomed into an entire day of activities, music and friendship that all Beachmont residents were able to share in. "No wonder Beachmont is called the capital of Revere," commented City Council President John Jordan, summing up the tremendous success of the day Chairperson of the Birthday Party Committee Chris Foglia and her team left no stone unturned in preparing for the day. Leverett and Dolphin Avenues were blocked off and a bandstand was provided by the city, providing a stage for public speaking and continuous musical entertainment. The party provided much excitement for the children in attendance, whether they were participating in sack races, competing in basketball shoot-outs, getting deputized and fingerprinted by volunteer Suffolk County Sheriff officers, gulping down free cotton candy or just playing on the swings, slides and tires that make up the heart of Louie Pasteur Park. There was plenty to enjoy for adults too, such as free hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, and drinks and live karaoke entertainment. Several area politicians, including Mayor Robert Haas, State Representative William Reinstein, City Council President John Jordan, and Ward One Councillor Richard Penta, attended the event and applauded Beachmont residents for their efforts in bringing the community together. Jordan presented Beachmont Neighborhood Association President Ben Leone with a certificate from the Revere City Council, saying it came "from the bottom of our hearts." Ben Leone summarized the entire community's feelings on the success of the day when he proclaimed, "I love Beachmont!" All moneys raised from the event will go to purchasing a "birthday present" for the park in the near future. If you missed the event this year, be sure to come next September as the Louie Pasteur community birthday party will now be an annual event. Beachmont should be proud. |
