Pride in your neighborhood
by Cheryl Traina

Do you hang clothes on the fence in your yard? On your porch railings? Was Reagan in office the last time you raked your yard? Do you put your trash out on Saturday for Monday morning pick-up? Is your property basically in disrepair?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions (or if you find any of the above issues annoying) this article is for you.

In conjunction with the BNA sponsored "Litter Awareness Month", the BNA has proclaimed May to be "Pride in Your Property Month." And where is the best place for that pride to begin? On each of our individual properties.

The BNA recognizes you as a member of the community through your ownership or occupation of property. As a property owner, you know that one measure of a desirable home is the economic value placed on it by others. An increase in property values usually goes hand in hand with community vitality and well-being. Homes in disrepair do not contribute to increased economic value or pride in the neighborhood.

Some properties have been identified by the BNA as "properties in need of repair, maintenance, and/or attention." If you own any of those properties, we ask you to work with us in our neighborhood improvement efforts by addressing the identified problems. If you lack the resources to do so, contact the BNA so we may work with you toward resolving your needs.

If you live next to absentee landlord property and you feel there are problems which need to be addressed, drop us a line. You do not have to identify yourself, just the property. We will work with Revere city officials in locating the owners and bringing forth your issues. We’ve done this in the past and have had success with our efforts.

Citywide clean-up day is May 16th. We need volunteers to organize clean-up teams and select clean-up sites (if you can’t organize a team, you can be a member of one!) Make a commitment to clean up your personal property. Renters, don’t ignore this effort because you don’t ‘own’ your home. It‘s still your home. Take pride in it!

Are you wondering what you can do to be involved in May and beyond? How about these ideas:

  • plant some flowers
  • trim your hedges
  • sweep up trash in front of your home and your driveway
  • paint your house or fence
  • remove debris from your yard
  • wash your windows
  • help a neighbor

There is a lot of history in this neighborhood. When you drive the Beachmont area, you should be proud of what you see. Please work with us in improving neighborhood pride and vitality.
